About the station

One of Britain's busiest railway terminals

London Euston is the southern terminus of the West Coast Main Line, the route that links the capital with Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, the Lake District, Glasgow and Edinburgh. It sits on Euston Road in the London Borough of Camden, is managed by Network Rail, and handles services from Avanti West Coast, London Northwestern Railway, London Overground and the Caledonian Sleeper.

The layout is simple once you know it: a single wide concourse with the departure screens overhead, shops and eateries around the edges, and the 16 platforms below and to either side. Platform numbers are published only a few minutes before departure, so most people wait on the concourse rather than at the gates. If you are new to Euston, start with the station map, then check left luggage and the taxi rank for onward travel.

Underneath the concourse, Euston Underground station serves the Northern and Victoria lines. Euston Square, a few minutes' walk west along Euston Road, covers the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. King's Cross and St Pancras International are both within walking distance.

Navigating Euston like a regular

Six things worth knowing before you walk through the doors.

The main entrance opens straight onto one wide concourse. Arriving by Tube, follow the signs for “Main Line Trains” and you will come up into the same space.

02 — Tickets

Tickets and information

The ticket office and self-service machines sit near the main entrance, with an information desk alongside for help with routes, changes and delays.

03 — Departures

Reading the departure screens

Platforms are below concourse level and are confirmed only shortly before departure. Watch the screens rather than heading to a gate early, and expect a brisk walk once yours is called.

06 — Onward

Onward connections

Common questions

Euston station FAQs

Quick answers to what people most often ask before they travel.

What time does London Euston station open and close?
Euston is open Monday to Saturday from 04:30 until 01:34 the following morning, and on Sunday from 05:15 until 01:34. The ticket office keeps shorter hours: 06:00–22:30 Monday to Friday, 06:00–22:00 on Saturday and 07:00–22:30 on Sunday. See the full opening times.
Is there left luggage at Euston station?
Yes. Euston has a staffed left luggage facility, so you can store bags and suitcases for a few hours or a full day while you explore London. Charges are per item and per time band, and larger items usually cost more.
How early should I arrive at Euston?
For long-distance West Coast Main Line services, allow 20–30 minutes. Platforms are announced shortly before departure and the walk from the concourse with luggage takes a few minutes. Allow 30–40 minutes if you need assistance, are collecting tickets from a machine, or are travelling at a peak time.
Is Euston step-free and accessible?
Euston is a Category A station with step-free access from the street to all National Rail platforms, plus lifts, an assisted travel lounge and staff assistance. The Underground station below has lift access to the Tube ticket hall, but the Northern and Victoria line platforms themselves are reached by escalator and stairs. See mobility assistance.
Which Underground lines serve Euston?
Euston Underground station sits directly beneath the mainline station and serves the Northern line (both branches) and the Victoria line. Euston Square, a short walk west along Euston Road, serves the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. Both are in fare zone 1.
Is there car parking at Euston station?
There is no official on-site car park at Euston. Several car parks nearby can be pre-booked online, which is normally cheaper than turning up on the day. A designated drop-off and pick-up point is available — see getting to & from Euston.
Where is the taxi rank at Euston?
Euston has a dedicated black cab rank served by licensed taxis, with marshals on hand at busy times. Euston bus station sits alongside the railway station for onward TfL bus routes. See the taxi rank guide.
How many platforms does Euston have?
Euston has 16 mainline platforms. Numbers appear on the concourse departure screens shortly before each train leaves, so it is usually best to wait on the concourse rather than at a platform gate. The station map shows how the platforms are grouped.
